Vino de Montaña 2018, Península Viticultores, Sierras de Gata Y Gredos |
|
|
It has a long name, yet it all makes sense. Grapes have been grown on the steep granite mountains south of Madrid for centuries, but it is only in the last two decades that the wines have been rediscovered. |
Grown in these unique soils and climate, the Garnacha (Grenache in French) grape produces wonderfully perfumed, delicate wines that have a lovely fresh element, despite being 14.5-15% alcohol. |

This version also includes a small percentage of Rufete and Piñuela, two little-known local grapes. Sierra de Gata y Gredos is the region, Península Viticultores is a group of winemakers who specialise in the lesser-known areas, grapes and wines of Spain, and they call this their mountain wine or Vino de Montaña.
Tasting Note: Fragrant and floral, with juicy elegant strawberry and raspberry fruits, subtle hints of spice and a nicely rounded finish.
Food Match:This would go nicely with Spanish stews; long, slow-cooked lamb or pork, with chorizo perhaps, and beans and red peppers. | |
